Last weekend I was in Dallas with members of my family watching the S.t Patrick's parades. Afterward, we walked back to the car. I stayed behind to take aphoto of the crowds and then ran to catch up with my family. When I reach them I jump onto the sidewalk, but didn't quite measure up that the sidewalk was taller than usual. I trip on the edge, skipped twice, then BOOM!The result: broken right wrist. Currently, my right hand is encased in a splinter made of plaster of paris, gauze and bandages. Pain and swelling have subsided thank goodness. Surgery is scheduled for the middle of this week. Lesson: Don't run. Watch where you're stepping. Current mood: jackass

Oh man. Good luck with surgery!
And leave ballet to the trained professionals!
Hospital PROTIP: steal everything not attached to something or contaminated with MRSA.

Today marks 3 months since my injury. When I went in for surgery on March 27 the procedure had to be postponed because the nurse found out my blood pressure was ... sky high That same day I had to go to a doctor to have B.P. medication prescribed. I also bought a treadmill so now I exercise while watching my ridiculously large anime backlog. I finally went into surgery on April 9. Got a metal (titanium?) brace/plate thingy screwed onto my radius bone close to the wrist. Mobility has been slowly returning to my arm. I can turn my wrist enough that my hand can face me straight on, albeit with some discomfort. Moving my hand at a right angles up or down in relation to my arm is still a work in progress. Orthopedist says I gotta have patience. Next is some physical therapy.
To avoid flooding the forum with large pictures I'm only putting the photobucket links here Brace that I have to wear: i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o665/Kiggy1969/Forum%20pics/brace_zps32e1043d.jpegLovely surgery scar: i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o665/Kiggy1969/Forum%20pics/scar_zpsa4dbcdd6.jpegX-ray of my right arm showing metal implant: Kinda looks like a mini facehugger

Awesome! (Sorry I know this is an 8 month old thread.) This past summer I converted my mountain bike to a road bike to ride with a co-worker and some of his friends. My first ride (a solo trip) was safe clean fun. My second (the very next evening) involved me being the only one of the group to not have consumed alcohol that evening and being the only one to crash my bike. A simple sudden stop had me capsizing and landing on my elbow. I limp home and go straight to bed. After an hour of positioning my arm just right I finally fell asleep. An hour later I was back up with no hope of getting another wink. Off to the hospital... It was just a sprain but a painful one.
I learned several valuable lessons that day. 1) Hospitals charge $1000 an hour (even in the waiting room.) 2) Being sober is no guarantee of safe driving ability. 3) If you're gonna fall from an elevated position fall towards your non dominant arm. 4) There a muscles in your elbow (necessary for writing and other fine motor skills.) 5) A doctor at 4am has no sense of humor. (i.e. - when he asks if you drive or use heavy equipment at work when he's prescribing pain medication. Don't tell him your a forklift operator.) 6) Going to work on 1 hr of sleep isn't all that bad. 7) Going to work after crashing your bike sucks. 8) I can't eat left handed. 9) You can't type with a immobilized elbow and wrist. 10) Walking is better exercise.
