And you are the anime experts. I'm set to do a panel at Anime Banzai on "Anime and Disabilities". My question for you all is, what characters do you know that are disabled in any fashion? I think the most common disabilities are "eyepatches", and that being on the left side for the most part. Do you know of any characters that have mental disabilities of any kind? Plain old crazy shouldn't count though.

Captain Avatar from Star Blazers/Space Cruiser Yamato is suffering from a battle wound which is slowly killing him. That one is debatable though in terms of disability.
I know there's an entire hentai game featuring a cast of girls all of whom have some kind of disability from blindness, one has lost her arms, etc.
Li Sayoran from Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles is blind in his left eye, that's why he does martial arts kicks, gives him a better field of vision while fighting.
Kei and Ichigo from Please Teacher and Twins suffer from a disease that causes them to lapse into comas periodically.
Sawyer the Cleaner from Black Lagoon had her throat slashed and is mute. She is EXTREMELY dependant on her voice box to be able to function.
Gourry Gabriev suffers from brain damage following a battle injury. Sylphiel is the one responsible for nursing him back to health.
Kaoru from Ai Yori Aoshi suffers from constant pain from the scars on his back due to his abuse by his grandfather.
In the manga of Read or Die, Mr Joker had both of his hands forcibly amputated by Yomiko Readman when he tried to kill her.
Hiro from Princess Resurrection is Undead and thus is 'living impaired'. So are Makina (and all the Corpse Princesses) from Shikabane Hime.
That's all I got off the top of my head.

Depends on how liberally you want to define "mental disablilities".
Many stories revolve or at least begin with characters that have expirenced a great personal tragedy of some sort that has left them in a debilitating funk: Examples: Shizuma Hanazono (Strawberry Panic), Neviril (Simoun), Kotomi Ichinose (Clannad).
Other stories revolve around characters that constantly battle their demons and live with the consquences of their actions... Eclain and Lumiere from Kiddy Grade
There's the "Gunslinger Girls" who's pasts are nothing short of living terror that the physical toll was so great that many of them were "rebuilt and augmented" with cybornetics.
-------
Physical Disablities are a little easier.
Andrew Waltfeld from Gundam Seed / GS Destiny
Nunnally Lamperouge from Code Geass lives as a parapalegic
as does Hayate Yagami from Nanoha A's (though she does eventually over come this)
Mashiro Kazahana from Mai-Hime also is in a wheel chair though her's is more of a disability related to stamina
Yuzuha is bedridden in Utawarerumono
I could think of more but I'm out of time...

Angelic Layer - Shuko Suzuhara lost the use of her legs
.Hack//Sign - Subaru was in a wheelchair. don't remember why.
I'll add more as I think of them ...

Still editing oh...36+ gigs of video x.x Not just panels, but regular ol' (HA!) life too. Today I worked on more editing, so I got a bit closer! Meaning, I'll have actual video of the panel for you to see.
In short, it went well. It started slow at first, but when we moved on to more interesting stuff and I joined in, it went more quickly. The way the host of the panel wanted it, we just talk about the disabilities that exist, the fans, the animes with disabilities in them, and if they are portrayed accurately. That sort of thing. I provided backup. So overall, it went well. We had some interesting discussions.

Anyway, didn't find the game, what I did find was all the pics from the first three anime cons I ever went to.
